LONDON – After successfully creating a variety of innovations and advanced technologies, some scientists claim that the capacity of the human brain has reached a limit and can no longer be developed further.
This is expressed by scientists from Cambridge University who has analyzed the structure of the human brain and find out how much energy has been used by the cells. They also think that human intelligence may have reached its peak.
“We have demonstrated that the brain has to consume energy in order to function and this means also the need to limit the performance of the brain,” explains Simon Laughlin, a professor of neurobiology, as quoted in the Daily Mail, Monday (01/08/2011).
“The ability to conclude a thought requires a lot of energy because when looking for a relationship of new thinking, the brain must continue to connect information from different sources,” added Laughlin.
Meanwhile, other scientists claim that the fibers that connect different areas of the brain can no longer develop for the better. They found that people with intelligence above the average have better performance in connecting information, where the messages are taken very quickly.
But according to scientists, the process requires extra energy is very large so that the brain becomes more efficient performance. They claim that it is impossible for humans to provide more energy, because it no longer human beings can become more intelligent.
Assistant professor of psychiatry at Utrecht Martin van den Heuvel adds, “Improving the ability of the brain will lead to increased energy consumption are not proportional.”
“A little risky to predict the future, but it is clear that the level of human intelligence to face strict restrictions,” van den Heuvel finished.
